Off to Africa
Words cannot even begin to describe the excitement ringing through every fiber of my being. If I'm being honest, there's a little anxiety too, but mostly excitement for what lies ahead.
It's currently Thursday. My To Do list is dwindling. My suitcase is open waiting for the last few anticipatory packages arriving today so I can start the game of what is essential and what should stay behind. My COVID test is scheduled for later today.
Not forgetting to finalize things around the house, I've got last minute weeding and cleaning to do so I leave Awesome with a clean slate.
It's a trip of a lifetime.
So naturally, the anxiety circles around all the what-ifs. What If I catch COVID and can't go. What if I'm not able to capture what's in my head. What If I've built this up to be something greater in my head than it could ever live up to? What if. What if. What if.
I've never been this worrisome of a person, but I suppose when there is a lot riding on a trip, it's not uncommon to imagine one rock will bring the glass house tumbling down in a pile of broken dreams! That's a little melodramatic. But sometimes it needs to be voiced, or written, to exorcise it from my mind!
Moving on....
In those moments when my mind gets a little carried away, I stop and breathe. I tune in above and remove the chatter. And then I envision all the beauty I'm about to encounter as I stand in awe of the vastness. As I've stated before, it'll be the place where I can find myself and lose myself all at the same time.
If I'm lucky, I will create a piece of art that reflects everything I was feeling at that moment, imbuing the work with a sense of connectedness and wonderment.

In case anyone is wondering, it's a 15 day packed trip encountering some pretty amazing places:
- A cheetah excursion
- A full day at the ghost town in Kolmanskop
- 2 1/2 days at Soussevlei, home of the petrified forest and massive sand dunes
- A helicopter ride and dolphin cruise
- Several days at Etosha National Park where an amazing assortment of animals co-exist
While I do have some fun concepts already in mind, my other goal is to take tons of stock photography of landscapes, of animals, to bring back for future projects.
Now back to packing!
