Kindred
I remember planting my flag in Colorado back in 2017 stating this was it…no more moving. The previous 5 years had us leap frogging across multiple states; 5 of them in 5 years. It was time to put down roots and secure our lives into the foothills of the front range.
That’s the funny thing about plans.
So here we are, some seven years later, rebuilding our lives back on the east coast, once again. This time, though, it feels different.
Perhaps it’s the last 10 years of experience since we were last in the northeast. Perhaps it’s the dedication towards personal development and an acceptance towards change. Perhaps it’s the understanding that with change comes the opportunity for growth. Or perhaps it’s the realization that together, we can do anything.
Maybe all of the above.
There’s a sizzling in the air. A hum of electricity. I feel it sitting in the chair, walking the dogs each day and absolutely while I stare in awe at the creek as it cascades into a small waterfall right next to Main Street, ten minutes from my apartment.
But also, as I listen to the excitement in Awesome’s voice as he’s accepted into his new position at work. Making friends. Solving problems. Then again as we organize our home into a livable space, utilizing Feng Shui practices to bring balance and prosperity while maximizing abundance and flow.
I can’t imagine sharing this existence with anyone else. We both have changed light years since we met, but our trajectory is aligned regardless of the path we’re on, always supporting each other in our endeavors. We complement each other so well, his science to my art. His yang to my yin. His cheese to my macaroni. I can say with complete certainty that I wouldn’t be where I am today without his support and encouragement. I can only hope I’ve been there in the same capacity for him as well.
So again on this path toward destination unknown. With Awesome by my side, the location is inconsequential.

Behind the Scenes - Kindred
These beautiful creatures found the watering hole right next to my camp at Etosha National Park in Namibia.
We were taking a midday break from the safari excursion as most of the animals tend to nap in between meals. One is less likely to see majestic creatures when the sun is high. Early morning starts and pre-sunset excursions are best for animal sightings.
But we got lucky!
Like I mentioned in my previous posting with Becoming, I don't often insert symbols into my work. I prefer to create something believable, no matter how surreal it might be. Symbols and any other markings tend to shatter that reality.
But similarly, the symbol in this piece, the Sri Yantra did call to be included. It very much felt like it was missing once removed. So despite my hesitation, I listened to my gut and left it there, connecting these two zebras to further instill meaning into the piece.
The Sri Yantra is a symbol of balance, representing both masculine and feminine energies. It is also known as a sign of abundance and prosperity, with each triangle representing different aspects of the universe and its limitless potential.
Zebras align with these concepts through the nature of their stripes, black and white mimicking positive and negative, yin and yang. Aside from balance, they also represent agility, clarity without filters and sureness of path.
The background from these piece was photographed at Monument Lake, not far from my home in Colorado, when I was out there with my lovely model for another shoot. It seemed only natural to take these creatures from one watering hole and place them in another for this concept.
